Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT HAPPENS IN A COUNSELLING SESSION?

We will spend an hour together in a private room where you can talk about anything you wish. I won't judge you, and I won't tell you what to do.

CAN I REALLY TALK ABOUT ANYTHING I LIKE?

Yes you can. Our relationship is confidential, unless you were to tell me that you were involved in serious harm to someone or to yourself, in a way that could put life in danger, or if you disclosed recent or ongoing serious child abuse. I can give you further details on the limits to confidentiality when we meet.

DO YOU TALK TO ANYONE ELSE ABOUT ME?

All professional counsellors are required to have regular case supervision to ensure best practice and safety for our clients. I meet regularly with another experienced counsellor who is trained in supervision for this purpose, but clients' personal details are not revealed during these meetings.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Every client is different and I do not set a limit on how many or few you will need. We will work this out together.

HOW LONG ARE THE SESSIONS?

Each session will last for an hour. Experience has shown that this is a manageable time for both client and counsellor. It is important that time boundaries are adhered to. Unfortunately, if you arrive late I would be unable to run the session past its original finish time.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The sessions are 50 (70 for a couples session lasting 1 hour 15 minutes) and I reserve the right to ask for the fee should you cancel within 24 hours or fail to arrive. Fees are payable in cash or by cheque at each session. It is usually best to have weekly sessions, at least to start with, but the frequency of sessions can be negotiated to suit your needs. Supervision is also 50 per hour or 75 for an hour and half. Fees may be negotiated if finances are a problem.
